Cuc Phuong National Park

Cuc Phuong is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Vietnam. It was established in 1962. Suited about 120km southwest of Hanoi, lied between the Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh and Thanh Hoa province.

A magnificent limestone landscape

It suited on 2 limestone mountain ranges, Cuc Phuong’s the landscape is a wonderful ecosystem. Cuc Phuong’s charm with the verdant karts mountain and the lush valleys, numerous caves limestone.

Visiting “Nguoi Xua” Cave (Cave of the Early man), tourists have chance to see the two new discovered ancient tombs with Neolithic remains and evidence of stone implements. Besides, there are also some caves as Trang Khuyet (Crescent Moon), Thanh Minh and Con Mong, and Hang Dan (well known for Bat).

Cuc Phuong is the oldest national park so it is considered the evidence of the history.  To remind the environment’s core in life, Cuc Phuong was granted a “National Park” by President Ho Chi Minh. 7,000 to 12,000 years ago, the numerous caves have been found in the park.

Diversified Flora-Fauna

Cuc Phuong is very impressive by the botanical richness of the forest with a wide variety of flora species and patches of primeval forest, including ancient trees with thick clusters of roots, parasitic plants and ligneous creepers. Especially, some plant species have been introduced from Burma, India, and Borneo.

The park has   97 species of mammals, 300 species of birds, 36 reptilian species, and 17 species of amphibians and so on. A huge number of species in the park are listed on Vietnam Red Book.

Entertainment activities

If you are keen on cultural aspects, do not hesitate to take part in the community – based- eco- tourism and home – stays. Take a trek to the Muong village you will be welcomed by hospitable local people and have a chance to sleep in traditional stilt house. It does bring you an opportunity to discover their culture and try out bamboo river rafting.

Besides, tourists can enjoy trekking through the forest. You will trail 1000 year old tree, other ancient trees, silver cloudy peak and Muong village, may join night-spotting trips into the primary forests. Visitors also have opportunities to see the more exclusive mammal species of the park, such as the black giant squirrel, the Indian flying squirrel, samba deer and several small carnivores.
Remember to bring the binoculars because Cuc Phuong has a wealth of beautiful tropical birds, many of which are endemic in Vietnam and Indochina.

For further tourists can take a tour to biodiversity hotspots. Cuc Phuong, presently, has a total of 43 biodiversity hotspots. They were recognized by the scientific department of the national park and they bring you an excellent opportunity to study and see many different species of tropical plants.

Cycling though the forests is one of the fantastic ways to explore Cuc Phuong. It brings the tourists not only silence and a cool breeze; it is also a great way to discover the more secretive animals and birds of the national park.

Suggested means of transport

Tourists should take a bus from Hanoi at Giap Bat Bus Terminal- the city’s southern bus terminal, about 20,000 VND, to Nho Quan, and then catch a motorcycle taxi to the park headquarters at around 30,000 dong. It will take about 2.10 to 3.10 hours to travel there.

A quick note travel:  If you have plan on making a trip to the park, firstly you should apply for a Vietnam visa. In generally, visa on arrival is secured, reliable and quick.
