Sapa’s Transportations

Although Sapa is a district in Lao Cai province in northwest Vietnam, it is quite convenient to travel there. There are some kinds of transportations that you can take to travel from Hanoi to Sapa and returns.

Automobile
354 km away far from Hanoi, there are many trips car come to Sapa province. From Hanoi to Sapa you can visit a lot of famous spots such as the Co Loa in Dong Anh, Hanoi, Tam Dao in Vinh Phuc, Hung King’s grave in Phu Tho, or Thac Ba Lake in Yen Bai, etc. Visitors can directly observe landscape along the way. Especially, car rental procedure is very simple. You can only ask postal service 108. Therefore,many travel groups choose automobile as a mean to visit Sapa. In addition, visitors have a chance to visit Ha Khau in China or Dien Bien Phu in Lai Chau.

Train


Traveling by train from Hanoi to Sapa is the most popular option. There are two trips per day. Especially, on Friday and Sunday it has extra train from Hanoi to Lao Cai to Kunming, China.

There are some Sapa train services: Fansipan Express Train, Green Express Train (Green Train), Tulico Express train and Victoria Express Train.

As coming to Sapa, those who want to travel by themselves in Sapa and the surrounding areas are suggested to rent a motorbike.  Having more than one rental motorcycle site, you can rent a motorbike to go. These are the prices for motorbike with good quality.  Please do note that the price vary depending on kind of vehicle.

For automatic motorbike


If you want to rent a motorbike with full fuel in 1 day, you will pay $12. If you just rent it in ½ day the price is only $8.  Or you can also hire the motorbike without fuel in 1 day, the price is $8. Hiring in ½ day, you just pay only $5.

For motorbike gear-box


Including fuel, renting in ½ day, you will pay $10.  If you rent it in 1 day you will pay $7. Besides, you can hire a motorbike gear-box excluding fuel in 1 day with the price is $7 and in ½ day the price is only $ 4.

On foot

From the Sa Pa, Bac Ha, if tourists want to visit remote villages, you should find a guider. In case you prefer riding, before going, you should go to the stores to buy sandals for travelling in any terrain. Coming to stop point, you should soak your foots in warm salt water about 30 degrees so that the next day you can walk better. If you have a lot of luggage, travelers can hire local people to carry for you.
