Transportations to Mai Chau

Hoa Binh province is a hub traffic connecting plain with the mountainous northwest provinces.

Hoa Binh’s provincial road is 912.5 km in length, including 355.5 km of national roads and 134.2 km of provincial roads with inter-district and inter-communal roads.

The important road in the province is the National Highway No. 6 through Luong Son, Ky Son, Tan Lac district and Hoa Binh city. Mai Chau connects directly with Hanoi capital and other northwest provinces.

National Highway 15A ranges fromMai Chau district to Thanh Hoa province. National Highway 12B goes through Hoa Binh’s districts namely Tan Lac, Lac Son, Yen Thuy district and Ninh Binh province, connecting National Highway No. 6 with National Highway No. 1. National Highway No. 21 is from Xuan Mai district, Hanoi  to Luong Son, Kim Boi, Lac Thuy then the road connects with National Highway 12B in Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province.

The system road links all the districts, communes and towns in the province with districts and provinces in other province so it is very convenient for province’s the economic growth.

Mai Chau is 135km from Hanoi and just 5km to the south of Tong Dau junction on National Highway No. 6.

Coming to Mai Chau, tourists can travel by public transport. It takes about two hours to travel from Hanoi to Hoa Binh Town by bus. Everyday, local buses run from Hoa Binh town to Mai Chau Valley at 6 a.m, 12 p.m and 4 p.m. It costs about 35,000VND.


If you go by public transport, you may be stopped to pay a 5,000VND entrance fee right before coming to the valley.

Besides, you can take any bus leaving for Son La or Dien Bien Phu which will pass by and drop off at the Tong Dau junction about 5 km from town.  From there, you can hire a motorbike taxi, which costs about 30,000 VND.
