Muong Sap’s Dance
Tay Bac has provinces such as Lai Chau, Son La, Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Hoa Binh. Each ethnic group in Tay Bac has their own special dance. Besides the Thai people’s Xoe folk dance, the La Ha people’s the Tang Bu dance, the Muong people’s the Sap dance is also unique folk dance.
The Sap dance is held in spring festivals. Nowadays, it is spread to other ethnic groups. Two big, straight and long bamboos are used for the Sap dance. The bamboo is from 3 to 4 cm in diameter. When dancing, people put the two bamboos apart. They are placed in parallel, equally spaced about 20 cm forming the orchestra Sap.
A boy and a girl sit opposite and type beat 4 / 4. Subordinate Sap is clapped three times on the main Sap, two subordinate Sap is clapped one times together creating sounds, rhythms for dancing. Couples dance to the orchestra Sap in turn and each person holds a long colored towel. The movement is very flexible.
The Sap dance is the favorite of Vietnamese people in particular and international friends in general.
